Two such organisations are trusts and societies. A trust is a legal bond between two parties where one party holds property for another in complete confidence. In comparison, a society is an association of parties who jointly fulfil a common purpose mentioned under The Indian Societies Registration Act of 1860.<\/p>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<p>If you are someone who wants to put aside a portion of your earnings for a special cause or for the welfare of the society, here are some advantages and disadvantages of a charitable trust.<\/p>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Advantages<\/strong> of a Trust<\/h2>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Easy set-up:<\/strong> Setting up does not require many people, a minimum of two people will also suffice<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Privacy and control:<\/strong> Privacy and control of the trust remain intact while reducing misuse of funds significantly<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Assets utilisation: <\/strong>It is easy to release assets partially over a period of time<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Cost-saving: <\/strong>It reduces the burden of tax amount and is a good option for cost-saving<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Time-saving:<\/strong> There are no tedious processes involved to reorient the arrangement of the board members. Further, it doesn\u2019t require any prior invitation to the members<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Disadvantages<\/strong> of a Trust<\/h2>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Less autonomy<\/strong>: A charity commissioner has the authority to intervene in decision making\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Rigidity:<\/strong> A trust is formed strictly for charity purposes<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Complexity: Difficulty in acquiring loans<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Less transparency<\/strong>: It is difficult to maintain complete transparency on the governance of the trust\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Autocracy:<\/strong> Usually a trust is controlled by just one person. It aims to support scholarly, charitable or scientific work.<\/p>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Advantages<\/strong> of a Society<\/h2>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Beyond charity:<\/strong> It goes beyond charitable purposes like political, educational, fund-raising and promotional<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Shared profits and liabilities:<\/strong> Liabilities are shared among the members as are the profits\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Seamless formation:<\/strong> Establishing is a simple process as every member shares a common goal.
